How do I allow pop-ups on Internet Explorer after installing Window XP Service Pack 2?

Windows XP Service Pack 2 installs an updated Internet Explorer which by default now blocks pop-up windows which are not actioned directly by clicking a button or link. This affects a number of areas within ClassCampus, including:

  • The pop-up work report is not displayed automatically after a student hands in a chapter. (The student can click the report button from the work schedule page to load the report instead.)
  • The closing chat pop-up does not get displayed on exit from a chat room -this leaves students still logged in to the chat room.
  • The (invisible) pop-up window used for automatically refreshing the ClassCampus licenses from ClassCampus Central does not function. (The administrator would need to use the refresh facility from the Administration pages if they required a license update.)
  • If a student closes the browser rather than logging off, the log-off pop-up window is not displayed. This will result in the student being left logged on until auto-logoff timeout is reached (20 mins).

Workaround:
When a pop-up is blocked by Internet Explorer, you should see a message displayed in the new Information Bar just below the Explorer toolbar (if this option has not been disabled). By clicking in the Information Bar, you can choose to Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site. This will overcome all the pop-up issues described above.

If the Information Bar has been turned off, the same setting can be made as follows:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. Select the Tools menu then the Pop-Up Blocker followed by Pop-up Blocker Settings option.
  3. Enter the address of the ClassCampus site in the provided box and click Add.
